Leah Rayman

Engineer

Leah completed a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in 2019. Throughout her studies, she gained experience with a major construction firm, and has extensive site experience. Her experience on site created a strong safety culture and focus in her work. She then worked for 3 years at a large design consultancy, working on major national projects in the transport sector at both design and construction phases. She’s looking to develop more in the areas of ecology and environmental science, hoping to create more holistic and greener stormwater designs.

Professionally and personally, she has a real passion for sustainability, intersectionality and decolonisation and strongly believes that designing with all three in mind can create lasting impact and positive outcomes. Infrastructure has a big role in social and cultural equity and she is a big proponent for more mana whenua voices and Mātauranga Māori to be brought into the design process. Leah is tauiwi, an African immigrant, and believes her role as Tangata Tiriti is essential to her role as an engineer in Aotearoa.

Leah’s diverse working background has created an authentic, collaborative approach to design and project management between client, mana whenua, constructor, and designer interests.

When she’s not at work, Leah can be found trying to keep her veggie garden alive, crafting or in the kitchen. She loves to travel and explore different cultures through food, music and art.
